Drewvis
- For The Win

June 8th, 2008 · review by jas ·

What a great name for a mini-album. Drewvis is mellow acoustic ska. The only criticism I think it warrants, is its mellow stylings don’t reach out and grab me, instead flowing over quietly. Still, this isn’t really a criticism as what more can acoustic ska really do? Saying that, ‘Fear and Self Loathing (In 7 Dials)’ made me perk up my ears as the lyrics aren’t exactly what you would expect to go with this kind of tune.

From what I can work out, it’s one guy called Drew from Brighton band Second Time Lucky, talented ska-punkers I remember seeing somewhere quite a while ago. It sounds bigger than just one man, with layered vocals and other instruments including bass and keys chucked in.

If you bought the original lo-fi release of Skylar’s self-titled album, and enjoyed it, the likelihood is you will like the feel of these seven tracks.
