Abolish Restaurants
Abolish Restaurants
Today it’s hard to imagine a world without restaurants. The conditions that create restaurants are everywhere and seem almost natural. We have trouble even thinking how people could feed each other in any other way (besides going to the grocery store of course). But restaurants as much as parliamentary democracy, the state, nationalism, or professional police are an invention of the modern capitalist world.

Rolling Thunder Issue 9
Rolling Thunder Issue 9
Published by CrimethInc

How important is legitimacy—in our own eyes, in the eyes of potential allies, in the eyes of the public? How can anarchists cultivate it? What pitfalls does it hold?Rolling Thunder #9 explores these questions while reporting on the past six months of upheavals around the US. Following up on our coverage of the 2008 convention protests, this issue assesses anarchist action at the 2009 G20 summit, mapping conflict throughout the city and analyzing the strategies of the police and protesters. The accompanying Pittsburgh scene report examines the decade of local organizing that prepared the ground for this and other confrontations. Elsewhere herein, they scrutinize protest and resistance on campus—from the recent occupation movement to efforts to shut down fascist student organizations—and in the Smash EDO campaign. All this, plus obscure Russian history, a reappraisal of the concept of “free speech,” and the usual stunning prose.

The Abolition of Work by Bob Black
The Abolition of Work by Bob Black
No one should ever work.

Work is the source of nearly all the misery in the world. Almost any evil you’d care to name comes from working or from living in a world designed for work. In order to stop suffering, we have to stop working.

You may be wondering if I’m joking or serious. I’m joking and serious. To be ludic is not to be ludicrous. Play doesn’t have to be frivolous, although frivolity isn’t triviality: very often we ought to take frivolity seriously. I’d like life to be a game—but a game with high stakes. I want to play for keeps.

Against Nationalism
Against Nationalism
published by the Anarchist Federation

“we have always opposed nationalism, and have always marked our distance from the left through vocally opposing all nationalism – including that of ‘oppressed nations’. While we oppose oppression, exploitation and dispossession on national grounds, and oppose imperialism and imperialist warfare, we refuse to fall into the trap so common on the left of identifying with the underdog side and glorifying ‘the resistance’ – however ‘critically’ – which is readily observable within Leninist/Trotskyist circles. We took this stance on Northern Ireland in the past, and take it on Israel/Palestine today.”

Jane was a clandestine abortion counseling service which effectively provided safe, humane services to thousands of women prior to the legalization of abortion in 1973. Jane is an inspiration — a beautiful example of the battles that can be won without begging, of women taking their lives into their own hands and taking responsibility for their actions. Originally published by Firestarter Press, Eberhardt Press has issued several reprinted editions of Jane to help keep this important document in circulation.
