Comica returns for another year to encourage people to explore the world of comics. Running from the 5th to 26th November the season will see London bubbling over with comics.
Small press comics fair
Of particular interest to many involved with Last Hours is the return of Comica’s comiket, which sees the event return to the ICA on Sunday November 8th. The day will see launches from Solipistic Pop, a new comics anthology of UK creators, and Savage Messiah zine.
Looking at the line up of people coming with stalls this year there’ll be a barrage of amazing comics and stories. And in the evening will see a series of talks, including a discussion of politics in comics at 6.30pm, which is sure to be interesting. More details
Other events
The three week will be filled with a series of talks and presentations. Full details can be found on the comica website – www.comicafestival.com – but the highlights as far I’m concerned appear to be:
- Friday 6 November – Black Powers, a free talk on black representation in comics at Swiss Cottage Library (more details)
- Saturday 7 November – Eddie Campbell, artist of From Hell – talking about his mammoth 640 page collection of Alec, recently released by Topshelf (more details)
- Monday 9 November – Kevin O’Neill – giving a free talk at Islington town library about The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (more details)
- Until 28th November – Ctrl.Alt.Shift Unmasks corruption exhibition at Lazarides, Soho. (more details)
Needless to say there’s a number of other events beyond these, and if you have any kind of interest in comics it’s well worth checking out www.comicafestival.com
