Tucked away in the back streets of central London is the little gem of ULU, a place I hadn’t been before tonight, which was set to stage a very special gig. This was the penultimate night of the ‘Reggae for the People’ tour, organised by the Rockers Revolt label, and featuring a blinding line-up.
At 7.45 […]

SkaNights runs a monthly gig/club at the Rhythm Factory on the first Saturday every month (saying it between every band really did make me remember it!). Last month was the Do The Dog birthday bash, and this month is… the Do The Dog birthday bash. I’m not complaining, the label has so many new bands […]

Review by Andrew Sibley
Arriving at 7 I thought we’d be in time to catch at least some of Ill Scarlett, but as soon as we’d bought a drink we were confronted by Pepper bouncing onto the stage. They sound something like Pennywise trying to play speedy ska interspersed with some mid-paced dub, with lyrical ‘highlights’ […]

It’s 9.30 at the weird venue that is King’s College. I can’t shake the feeling we are on the fourth floor, and someone has just pulled the blinds back and revealed it’s still light outside. The smoke machines are making it feel like a school disco, an image shattered only by the people wandering back […]

At: Roundhouse
I had never been to the Roundhouse before tonight, and it is a beautiful venue, inside and out. Despite the tall ceiling and odd shape, the room has brilliant sound all round, and the audience experiences a closeness with the artist that isn’t possible in most venues of this size.
Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip […]

This show was originally scheduled at the Mean Fiddler, but was upgraded and managed to sell out its big sister venue. There was an excited buzz outside, with people of all ages, those seeing the Fish for the first time and those who could probably remember them from the first tour.
Before the venue had even […]

First on tonight is The Casual Terrorist, a bit of a scruffy punk kid who sings about anarchism and how being an anarchist is great. Despite not entirely being ‘down’ with his sentiments, the set is enjoyable, and his constant funk-poking at the right wing is something that can be enjoyed by everyone. Raising a […]

Heroic Doses last ever gig took place one chilly Saturday evening in Kingston. Despite it taking ages to get there, nothing was going to stop me. The fiver entry got you a gig poster, and a free copy of the Doses/Black Tax split. Pretty good.
Bastion were on first. They got up wearing masks of all […]
