This 4 track EP is Ska/Skacore of the kind that was so popular in the late 90’s. It would be easy to dismiss The Hijacks as just another ska band that have missed the boat by about 8years. However, whilst they certainly aren’t bringing anything new to the genre, they do what they do incredibly […]

The sound of ‘Memory Drawings’ is euphoric.
Big and beautiful melodys crash into chaotic jazz frenzys. Then from the turmoil the bass pokes through with a hypnotic groove that takes you away to another planet. And all this without loosing a relentless intensity that will keep you hooked right till the end.
Whilest, at times, comparisons could […]

Youngblood Brass Band are a nine-piece jazz/hiphop/experimental ensemble. Their energetic live performance and relentless touring schedule have earned them notoriety in the underground. On top of this they have a strong DIY ethic and have been involved in the setting up of the ‘Layered Art Collective’ that functions as “an independent record label, literature and […]

This collection shouldn’t be nearly as wonderful as it is. In fact it may just be the best album I’ve heard in the past six months. From Buffalo, New York, this trio

Simply put this is a thing of beauty. Three songs clocking in at just over an hour; an entire movement of crust punk from Brighton’s Fall of Efrafa. On the unlikely, and unhappy, chance you don’t know who Fall of Efrafa are they formed in 2005

Five cheeky lads from Liverpool set out to emulate the finest bands of the melodic hardcore punk genre with this debut album. Okay, so it might pinch all the best bits of bands like Strike Anywhere, Propagandhi and Rise Against, but seeing as those

The weather outside may be grey but with Vic Ruggiero’s ‘Something in my Blind Spot’ you can almost feel the rays on your skin. Ruggiero has created an album of uplifting summer time tunes that will take you away to hot nights of love and rage in the 1960’s.
Ruggiero sings about life, love, and politics […]

Presented here are ten tracks from one of Bristol’s finest musical politicos. Blizzard’s cultural mash of rap/folk/politics is like nothing you have heard. Stripped down beats serve as a backdrop for a half sung, half spoken rap style that is both honest and engaging. Blizzard’s live show is a lo-fi, one-man band affair with a […]

More of the same from No Turning Back, but then, a NYHC/ Tough-Guy band’s unlikely to really de-rail and throw in a few synths or jazz solos!
The production on this album sounds a bit cleaner than some of their earlier stuff, which I personally prefer, but (I suppose like any band should be) they’re still […]

For those who’ve not heard them before, Path Of No Return are a mixture of heavy & melodic hardcore, who thankfully seem willing to mix it up a bit & try something slightly new/ different. It’s not a complete original, but you couldn’t accuse them of settling for the ’same old stuff’ you’ve heard a […]
