The sound of ‘Memory Drawings’ is euphoric.
Big and beautiful melodys crash into chaotic jazz frenzys. Then from the turmoil the bass pokes through with a hypnotic groove that takes you away to another planet. And all this without loosing a relentless intensity that will keep you hooked right till the end.
Whilest, at times, comparisons could […]

Youngblood Brass Band are a nine-piece jazz/hiphop/experimental ensemble. Their energetic live performance and relentless touring schedule have earned them notoriety in the underground. On top of this they have a strong DIY ethic and have been involved in the setting up of the ‘Layered Art Collective’ that functions as “an independent record label, literature and […]

Capitalism is not looking particularly healthy at the moment, $700 billion bail-outs, nationalisation of banks and rising unemployment all add up to a complete mess. And as organisers for this year’s London Anarchist Bookfair put it, “In the market of ideas the anarchist pound is bouyant”.

I first encountered CrimethInc. some years ago as I sat in a cramped living room chatting with friends. On the coffee table lay a truly battered and well thumbed copy of Days of War, Nights of Love (CrimethInc.’s flagship publication). I was a young punk kid lightly politicised by the threat of war in Iraq […]

The weather outside may be grey but with Vic Ruggiero’s ‘Something in my Blind Spot’ you can almost feel the rays on your skin. Ruggiero has created an album of uplifting summer time tunes that will take you away to hot nights of love and rage in the 1960’s.
Ruggiero sings about life, love, and politics […]

Presented here are ten tracks from one of Bristol’s finest musical politicos. Blizzard’s cultural mash of rap/folk/politics is like nothing you have heard. Stripped down beats serve as a backdrop for a half sung, half spoken rap style that is both honest and engaging. Blizzard’s live show is a lo-fi, one-man band affair with a […]

Dave was cycling to the grocery store with his girlfriend in Minneapolis on September 4th 2008, when an un-marked van pulled up, and two men wearing FBI shirts inexplicably bundled him into the back, and drove off. With no explanation or reading of rights.

More of the same from No Turning Back, but then, a NYHC/ Tough-Guy band’s unlikely to really de-rail and throw in a few synths or jazz solos!
The production on this album sounds a bit cleaner than some of their earlier stuff, which I personally prefer, but (I suppose like any band should be) they’re still […]

This years climate camp is now well and truly over and whilst many have declared the camp a great success its time to reflect upon the camps failures as well as its successes. Uri Gordon, activist and author of “Anarchy Alive!: Anti-authoritarian Politics from Practice to Theory” took part in a debate with journalist/author George Marshall about the role of radical politics in the camp.
