Profile - Chris is a punk lady who currently lives in Graz, Austria. She originally comes from Kingston and diverted via Leeds for a few years on the way to the mainland. She started doing twelve-oh-five zine when she was 14, which explains the teen angst and vulgarity, before jumping onboard the Rancid News ship a couple of years later. She also makes Sweetshop Syndicate (a fun personal zine about cats and the like) with Richard Phoenix. In her free time she likes to dream, read books at lightening speed, play poker, learn German, modify clothes, talk incessantly, go for long moody walks and cook curries.

Five cheeky lads from Liverpool set out to emulate the finest bands of the melodic hardcore punk genre with this debut album. Okay, so it might pinch all the best bits of bands like Strike Anywhere, Propagandhi and Rise Against, but seeing as those

Rentokill is a hardcore punk band from Austria. Formed about four years ago they’ve just released their second album, ‘Antichorus’. This is an interview with Jack from the band conducted just before the album came out.
LH: You guys come from Austria, which probably couldn’t be described as the punk rock capital of Europe, but still […]

A Sight Seeing Trip

I spent a week at the end of the summer on a holiday for people who are visually impaired. My role, apart from to have loads of fun, was to act as the ‘eyes’ for a different person each day. I didn’t have any experience working with blind people, or anyone with any kind of disability, so to say I felt like I was thrown in the deep end would be a real understatement.

Sorry if my archive is a bit confusing! I don’t have any back issues here to know which issues things went in so I have to guess. I hope you like this old rant about photography.

Media Minefield column

I study broadcast journalism at the University of Leeds. A lot of people, not least myself sometimes, have a problem with the idea of the mass media, a body that chooses the stories it deems worthy of reporting, discarding others that may be important but are not thought to be ‘in the public interest’.

Rentokill

Rentokill are one of those bands that come suddenly from nowhere and kick ass all around. I received their CD by mail but hadn’t expected too much. Too bad! When I finally listened to it I was totally impressed. I hadn’t received such a great record for a very, very long time and it doesn’t happen very often to me to be impressed “just” by the album.
