‘Arson is for lovers’ is the kind of pop record i adore, the kind that just grows and grows on you, until you reach the point where you can’t imagine a day passing without having to achieve sonic confirmation that each hook is exactly where it was the last time, or just to check that you’ve been humming it correctly.

Frank Turner claims to be haunted by the scene from Spinal Tap where no-one turns up for an instore appearance. He really didn’t have anything to worry about today. Pure Grooves, the record shop/cafe tucked away behind London’s Smithfield market, is packed to capacity and a few ardent fans even have to settle for the pavement outside.

Today about 30-40,000 people marched through London as part of the G20 Put People First march. There was a large ‘militant workers bloc’, which formed with over 600 people marching behind the banner ‘Direct action… against redundancies and repossessions’.
